  2. A new Board is posted outside the Inn

Winora approaches the inn's board with a stack of paper clutched in her arms. She fumbles with the previously posted notices, taking down some of the outdated ones. Pulling one out of her stack, she pins it in the center of the board. It reads: "Bardic Singing Contest October 20th at evening Ley Line Pulse (6pm) in the Bazaar. Prizes for the top three singers. For details, see Oma Blake" She steps close to read the tiny scrawl at the bottom. "A Production of the Bless the Mask Players" Winora steps back, glancing through the windows of the inn. "I'll post the rest of these later, it's time for dinner!"

  5. Hello

Hello! My name is Maggie. I'm the Marketing and Player Outreach Marshal here at Kingdoms of Novitas. Ryan is right. I played my first six games or so with a skirt and it's workable, albeit tad restrictive as there is a lot of running around. I recommend having her wear a pair of leggings under the skirt for more mobility if she decides to ditch the skirt for a role or two. As well, I'll give my normal spiel of recommending you do a bit of light reading before attending the game. Here is a link to the Learn to Play section of our rules wiki http://www.kingdomsofnovitas.net/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=Rules.Learntoplay It's a good basic rundown of the game. We go over it in quick new player orientation at the start of every game, but it's helpful to take a peek for yourself beforehand. I also recommend flipping through the World Book which details the lore of the game http://www.mvgc.net/larp/worldbook.pdf With that, if you have any more questions, feel free to let me know. Welcome and we'll see you on Friday!
  6. Hello

So what you generally want is something you can put other garb on top of. For combative npcs there are sometimes full costumes, and for non-combat npcs there are a variety of full sets of garb that are sometimes relevant (dresses for example). As I've never worn a skirt during game I can't speak to if they do or do not work well with those criteria and will let some other helpful soul speak up. Also welcome!
  7. Hello

Hello everyone! Me and my wife are new to this and we are planning on joining the activities for Sept 21, 2018. We are very excited. My wife is wondering does she need to wear pants or will a skirt do if she is going to be playing NPCs? Thanks, Adam J. Hidalgo

  13. Hi everyone! We've got a lot of new players, so I thought it would be a good time to refresh you on some of KoN's harassment and touching policies. Please take the time to read through this. KoN has been around for a bunch of years, and I say that because fairly recently we've grown so much that we realized we needed a harassment policy (1). So a few short years ago we put one together, and I'm going to put some more words here about it, and then link to it below. KoN's harassment policy hinges on communication. If someone is doing something you don't like, say so. You will not get in trouble, and there is no stigma at our game about "oh so-and-so isn't cool because they said no to this RP this one time." We're a game, it's supposed to be fun. If you're uncomfortable, say something (it's okay to break character to do this, and we recommend it!). If the other situation isn't solved by that, feel free to walk away. There's a few more topics so please bear with me... Our rules say: "Other than weapon contact in combat situations, physical contact is permitted only when both players consent. Any rule that involves two players interacting where physical contact might get involved can be summarized by that last sentence." (2) In short, don't touch people unless they communicate that it's okay. Think about our searching rules, our "physical search" only works if both players consent to the idea, and at any time can be stopped and changed to a detailed search. This gets a little fuzzy with touch range spells, but generally people touch gently on the arm and if you don't want to be touched please say something. Your character can't stop the caster from casting the spell on you, but you the player can be vocal and say "please don't touch me" and some literal hand-waving can happen to indicate the spellcast. Along the same lines as the harassment policy, if a player "out of game" tells you not to touch them, don't touch them. An important thing to note: This is an 18+ game. Adult situations and themes will occur. In the same way you stop to ask out of game "physical or detailed?" you should stop and ask out of game "Is it okay if I sit on your lap?" for example. Be explicit and direct with your intentions to avoid any confusion. Out of game calls happen all the time, so don't ever be afraid to ask out of game questions especially about adult situations and themes. The third topic is actually the first: the harassment policy. If a verbal "no" doesn't solve the problem, or if this is a recurring problem, report the situation to any of the KoN marshals, or ask a KoN staff member to find a marshal for you. You don't need to talk about the situation with any random logistics/makeup/whatever volunteer, but it's important to find someone you're comfortable with. At some point the situation is going to get reviewed by at least two marshals, usually the 1st and 2nd marshal. That's a little scary, but it's part of our real life jobs to keep confidences and not change our behavior. On that topic, I will let you behind the curtain just a little bit: We take every report seriously. We involve as few people as we can in the discussion, but due dilligence is always taken. Not every report results in action, but every report is collected, filed, and investigated. For the purposes of the harassment policy, we don't care if you're a newbie who thinks they're at a ren faire or gary fucking gygax(3): Every report is investigated in a manner as fair and unbiased as humanly possible. Thanks for your patience. This part of the job is hard but we're doing our best to keep everyone safe and comfortable at the game we love :) Respectfully yours, -Dan 2nd Marshal Rules Marshal volunteer dude doing his best Also Respectfully Yours, -Dave 1st Marshal Operations Marshal pretty soon we're gonna burn it all down Sources: (1) Harassment Policy http://www.kingdomsofnovitas.net/forums/index.php?/topic/11067-mvgc-inc-and-kingdoms-of-novitas-code-of-conduct/ (2) Physical Contact http://www.kingdomsofnovitas.net/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=Rules.Safety (3) Gary Gygax https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Gygax

  23. Harvest Feast steak dinner orders

Hey everyone I got distracted and didn't get to bring it up at game but I will be doing the steak dinner at the next game in September. Meals include a 3/4" NY strip, salt potatoes, and two sides (probably grilled veggies and fruit salad once I see what is in season) . Each dinner will be $18 and all profit will be donated to the BSA for continued improvements to to the property and If we make enough some lucky kid might get a scolarship award to attend summer camp. For such a noble cause three experience points will be granted per meal purchased. Meal prep will start during second shift and meat will meet grill starting third. Leave your real name and how many you want in the comments along with questions and potential donations of extra sides or desserts. I will be posting this on both the forum and Facebook. P.S. Veggie Kabobs can be substituted for steak if you are a monster that doesn't eat meat.
  24. A new Board is posted outside the Inn

Marcus approaches the board and takes down his last message and posts the following: if you are in need of a weapon or magical item please seek out Marcus at the bazaar. my wares are exceptional and very few can rival their craftsmanship plus at prices many merchants will consider crazy. i have found a means of crafting that only master merchants can beat. act fast before my queue fills up. not going to be near the bazaar anytime soon then send me a letter vie crimson courier and we can talk about what you want and price. may the seven guide your path, Marcus arcturus maximus, master paladin of the shield
  25. Calimacil weapons, leather gear, & other goodies FOR SALE

Heya! Sorry for the late reply. I still have the items, but there's one person ahead of you interested in both those items. If that falls through I'll PM you and let you know!
  26. New to Larp ...and upstate NY

I'm going to add to this. Simple pants that are cheap and last a long time are scrubs. I have several black pairs that still see NPC use from when I first started. Just remove any visible pockets with a seam ripper. Get ones a little large and they go over warmer pants for winter. Tops - ceilidh mentioned under armor or similar. I just want to add, your permit lted to wear whatever modern things you want, especially in winter, to keep warm. However, and this is VERY important, it CAN NOT be visible. Even just a neck line. It is for that reason I highly recommend a hood with a good mantle. Google skjoldehamn hood. There's a few good patterns. Again, as I said in my other post to you, I am happy to discuss anything related to this. If you want help with fabric choices, patterns, anything garb related, let me know.
  27. Foam Smithing - Is this tutorial acceptable?

Hello Kane, P&A Marshal here. So, I am familiar with this guy and his videos. He makes weapons that are both acceptable, and not acceptable, for our game. A good rule of thumb for anything like this is to ask yourself "if I seen this in Lord of the rings (or similar), would it be out of place?" I am happy to talk about appearance and design of anything prior to you making it.
  28. Foam Smithing - Is this tutorial acceptable?

Hi there! I'm Dan, the Rules Marshal. We've got another department for looks (Props & Atmosphere), and Dustan or his team can chime in looks-wise. 1. This looks similar to a lot of other foamsmithing videos I've seen, and arguably goes into greater detail than many. I think it would make a legal weapon for hitting people in KoN. 2. The rule you quoted is about punch-daggers and flails. Sorry for the confusion. Rapiers, spears, etc are all fine, assuming they are built well. Thanks for asking!
