  1. Someone from Player Outreach will respond soon with lots of advice, but I'm just here to say: all you REALLY have to do is show up. We'll coach you through a first event, complete with new player orientation and however much hand-holding you need!
  2. Hello, playerbase! The Logistics team is working on a lot of information for you, and the first thing we want to get out there is information about the sleeping arrangements in Maplewood. The options are all described below, with links to photos I took on our move-in day. The Logistics Team, with Hivemind's support, are working on a pre-registration system for sleeping and encampment space -- we want to be certain that everyone knows where they are going when they arrive at the new site, and that they know what to bring with them. Please do not ask questions about the preregistration system yet; there will be a separate post about that. Please check out your options, and think about what makes sense for you and your friends. I will post a second post of suggestions for what people should or might want to bring with them if they are planning to sleep in a tent or cabin. Players have three options for sleeping: Logistics, Cabins, and Tents. Logistics: These sleeping rooms are available year round. They have bathrooms, power, heat, and easy access to a kitchen with a refrigerator. There are two identical bunk rooms, each of which will sleep 15 when lightly populated, or 25 when beds are laid out side by side with very little room inbetween. The beds provided by Hoover are sleeping mats, which can be laid on the floor. Players can also bring personal cots or air mattresses. Regardless of what they sleep on, players must provide their own bedding. Players sleeping in Logistics will be required to keep all personal gear downstairs at all times, as all available space for personal NPC gear will be used by those sleeping in other buildings. Logistics is permanently out-of-game. Logistics mattress layout Logistics mattress layout 2 Cabins: The cabins are uninsulated, unheated, and unpowered. Cabins sleep either 8 or 4 based on size. They will be usable year round if players bring propane heaters and warm sleeping gear. Cabins are all near a port-a-john or building with plumbing, and a picnic shelter with a charcoal grill. The beds provided by Hoover are metal bedframes with sleeping mats. Players can also bring personal cots or air mattresses. Regardless of what they sleep on, players must provide their own bedding. Players sleeping in cabins will be required to keep all personal gear in the cabin at all times, except for NPC gear being used during the NPC shift, which can be brought to Logistics during the shift. NPC equipment cannot be stored in Logistics between shifts. Cabins will be part of active gameplay and may be In-Game encampments. Cabin exterior MerchantTown cabin interior Maplewood cabin interior, 4 Maplewood cabin interior, 8 Tents: The tents are wooden floors and frames with canvas walls and secondary tarp roofs. They sleep 4. They will be usable for all games from April to November. During the winter, players who normally encamp in tents will need to sleep either in cabins or Logistics. Tents are all near a port-a-john or building with plumbing, and a picnic shelter with a charcoal grill. The beds provided by Hoover are metal bedframes with sleeping mats. Players can also bring personal cots or air mattresses. Regardless of what they sleep on, players must provide their own bedding. Players sleeping in tents will be required to keep all personal gear in the cabin at all times, except for NPC gear being used during the NPC shift, which can be brought to Logistics during the shift. NPC equipment cannot be stored in Logistics between shifts. Tents will be part of active gameplay and may be In-Game encampments. Tent Tent Pod Medical: There are several options for anyone who requires special sleeping circumstances to consider. The Hoover Adventure Center has a Nurse’s Station. This Healer’s Hall will be a permanently out-of-game space, and a Combat and Safety medic will sleep there each night so that all players know where to find medical assistance if needed. There is power and a refrigerator in this cabin. It sleeps 4-8, depending on how the rooms are used. It has three small bedrooms with screen doors that can each sleep 2, and an outer area that can sleep an additional two. Hoover has provided four metal bedframes and sleeping mats; if additional players need to sleep in the Hall they will have to provide their own cots or air mattresses. Regardless of what they sleep on, players must provide their own bedding. Unless special accommodations are requested and approved by the Logistics Marshal, players sleeping in the Hall will be required to keep all personal gear in the cabin at all times, except for NPC gear being used during the NPC shift, which can be brought to Logistics during the shift. The Healer’s Hall will be reserved for those who can benefit from C&S monitoring and/or proximity to medical supplies. HH Exterior HH outer area HH bedroom door open HH bedroom, door closed. Climate Control and Allergies: If players require more moderated climate control, or suffer from severe allergies, Logistics will be the best sleeping solution – it has the best environmental controls and is the least “outside” of all options. Equipment: If players need access to refrigeration or power outlets, Logistics will be the best sleeping solution. There are 6-8 power outlets in each bunk room, and two refrigerators on the main floor. Bathrooms: If players need access to bathrooms, showers, toilets, or sinks, Logistics will be the best sleeping solution. There is one multi-stall bathroom opening off of each bunk room. Control of Space: If players need to be able to control their space for noise, occupancy, or security, a cabin will be the best solution. They have doors, some sleep only 4, and they are more isolated from the action of the game. Tents may also be the appropriate solution for some players, as they also sleep 4 and are isolated.
  3. NNY items

In re: tax returns. This is a hobby, and a game. The marshals do, yes, try to make items that will entice you to spend money on them, to help support our game. But if the only way you can afford something is by losing your tax return on it... that's not a great financial choice. And we have NEVER wanted to see the auction bankrupt a player, or put them in a precarious position. If the auction only works because players are making dumb decisions rather than thoughtful donations, we'll find another way. So the tax return argument isn't going to get much traction with us.
  4. Shift Balance for 2017

There's a legit reason for this. What we learned when one party was effectively covering every shift (or running on a single shift 15 deep) was that we can't write plot or field encounters that keep everyone entertained. 15 PCs means you need a fucktonne of NPCs to make a satisfying encounter. A single well-organized party that covers every shift means that they can easily monopolize plots (intentionally or not). We need to make sure we don't let the game get un-fun for the rest of you by letting one group get too many tendrils in the stone. So: 6+1 is the adventuring cap. Parties can be as big as you want, but don't monopolize the game.
  5. Shift Balance for 2017

Clarification that is important: You choose your shifts month by month, not by the season. If it becomes obvious that someone is trying to game the system to avoid in-game consequences of in-game actions, we will squish you.
  6. Hey, guys, I forgot to post this! If you need preproduction (and it speeds things up considerably if you do it), please submit really quick! Hello friends! Please post here or PM Maggie with your pre-production needs for the November event. Please submit to pre-produce the following: Crafting You will be receiving your numbers prior to event so if you are creating numbered items, post here or PM Kyle (http://www.kingdomso...hp?showuser=575). Numbers will be handed out at sign in by the Props and Atmosphere Marshal, Kyle. Personalized Incants You have the opportunity to personalize your scroll incants. To do this, post or PM Maggie during the pre-production window and they will be printed for you. Otherwise, you may produce these at sign-in by writing your incant in on scroll template blanks. (This is not required, but is an option.) Character Retirement As always, if you are retiring a character you need to contact us ahead of time to arrange the retirement process. Seriously, you need to do this. If you know you are retiring at this event, PM Jenica immediately! Please submit all pre-production requests by TOMORROW, Wednesday, November 2 at Midnight. Any requests after that time will have to be done at sign-in. Thanks! Please remember the new potion bottle policy and be prepared! Thank you!
  7. Best of October

The bath house out by Elf Town. It is amazing. It is heated. It is clean. The water is hot. I am in love. The Tvarus-Cooper encampment is only going to get better, and it was pretty great. Elf Town Coffee Hour, to replace Orc-O-Clock. (It's my PC shift, I'll use it to drink coffee if I want to.) Ryan Staring brought a digeridoo. The NPCs who dropped their eyes and shuffled away when Elderwoman Lavinia said "Citizens: Go home" upon finding them harassing Pisceans. And Steve's septon who handled it perfectly. 93 people signed in. The Logistics Team was amazing. I love this community.
  8. Sign-in feedback

Players: I want your feedback on how sign-in worked. Let us know, in the FB thread! https://www.facebook.com/groups/KingdomsOfNovitas/permalink/10154343185221418/

  10. Shift balance 2016!

It's time to make sure our shift balance is set in a way that works. tl;dr: One person from each party, and every independent, needs to fill out the survey at the link below, this week. >> Click here for the survey << Explanation: If we just let people choose when they want to PC, we end up with wickedly unbalanced shifts -- Friday nights where we have 20 PCs and 55 NPCs. The PCs get destroyed, and are super exhausted and kind of feeling beat up, and then when it's time for everyone to switch around, we have 55 PCs and 20 NPCs, and the GMs managing those NPCs can't put out enough plots to keep all the PCs entertained. And in the end, that's no fun for any of us. So to keep it fun, and keep it manageable, we do this. We run a survey, get your info, and the Logistics Marshal (me!) spends quality time with a spreadsheet and a white board, and works out a plan that looks like it's going to be balanced and fun. Your information here is really important -- the better your answers, the better the schedule I can build. I need your info by next Wednesday, September 21. My whiteboard and I thank you.
  11. Shift balance 2016!

UPDATE: Bryan made a great shift balance with some significant changes, but then the Marshals realized there actually wasn't much point in making things even more disruptive right now. So we will adjust shifts in 2017 as needed. Plan to play an all PC shift on Friday night of October's event, and on Saturday PC/NPC in your usual pattern.
  12. Sign in at Hoover

Hey, everyone. In my continuing quest to make sure you know how the new site will work, let's talk sign-in. Sign in will be slightly different at Hoover than at VK, and we have an opportunity to mek things even better by breaking up Friday sign-in from the main Logistics space. Here's how it’s going to work. First, take a look at this map: Logistics map On Friday night, you'll arrive and turn into Hoover where it says Entry. You will drive in the main road until you reach the medical building on your right -- and you will take the left turn at that intersection, which will lead you to Logistics. There is ample parking around Logistics: Stop here. Sign in has its own building at Hoover. It looks like this: https://www.flickr.com/photos/jenica26/28925499014/in/album-72157673511642726/ It has a picnic shelter and table outside for waiting your turn or hanging out, https://www.flickr.com/photos/jenica26/28925495454/in/album-72157673511642726/ and has a front door that leads to a sign-in counter. https://www.flickr.com/photos/jenica26/29550688765/in/album-72157673511642726/ (Those bunnies are obviously rabid killers. Pink, hoppy, rabid killers.) We will have our usual staff complement at this counter -- a computer for paying, shift balance, and XP, a production stop, and a person to help you level up and check your sheet. https://www.flickr.com/photos/jenica26/29550686335/in/album-72157673511642726/ When you're finished, you can leave through the back door, and head back to the picnic tables. https://www.flickr.com/photos/jenica26/29550690835/in/album-72157673511642726/ For this event, we will have Logistics Team members available to guide you to wherever you're sleeping, so that you don't have to guess or get lost. You can drive to very close to your bunks, no matter where you're sleeping, so once you've located your bed your next step will be to unload your stuff. Once you have your car empty, you need to move your car around the outside loop to the parking field, also marked on the Logistics map. We will have signs by the field, but if you miss it, the road is a big circle and you can just loop back around past Logistics and the Spinning Jenny and try again! After you're parked, you are now ready to play: either go get ready to PC, or head to the Logistics building (which you can see here: https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8115/29470296191_f1434514fc_b.jpg) for your NPC shift. Any questions? Hit me up here and I'll answer them as we go.

Sorry about tech glitches -- must be how google interacts with your browsers. But! I will be doing this over the weekend. Get your last responses in ASAP.
  15. Magic Lock and Maplewood Tents

and does Magic Lock encompass the structure (ie, both doors) or do you have to cast two?
  16. Dave Morgan, our former Logistics guru and veteran player, prepared a list of what he expects players will want to have in Maplewood. Thanks, Dave! The new cabins and tents we are going to use for PC in character space are unlike what most players are used to from our previous site. These cabins are in better condition, but have less modernization. They have no power or lights, so some planning is needed for those who will be using them for IC space and/or sleeping. 1. Lighting: you will need to provide your own light sources. The camp will provide some lanterns but we will be using those to light in-game spaces -- you probably will need more. No open flame lanterns other than propane ones such as have been used for area lighting in town. Here are a couple of amazon links for examples, but these type of items are available everywhere. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NIH4RUG/ref=ox_sc_mini_detail?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AZ5TLKQW32FI2 https://www.amazon.com/Battery-Operated-Candles-Festival-Delights%C2%AE/dp/B00GLM6VG8/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1473100647&sr=8-8&keywords=battery+powered+candles 2. Cell phones: you may need a battery extender to keep your items charged. 3. Tables and benches. There are no tables or benches in the tents/cabins themselves; there are pavilions near all the IC areas with picnic tables, but if your encampment needs table space you need to bring it, and inside space is limited. Think TV tray sized tables instead of 6 foot folding ones. 4. Atmosphere: the tents are just that, tents, and the cabins are rustic so if you may want to dress them up. Just keep in mind that there is NO ONSITE STORAGE for any PC items and everything needs to be removed from the cabins/tents at the end of each game. If you're going to use your space for IC interactions please take the time to try to hide all of your modern things. Something as simple as a blanket covering the modern cots and sleeping bags, and one thrown over your storage tote, can improve immersion tremendously. 5. In some of the IC areas you will be some distance from the inn, so you may want a cooler for your own refreshing beverages. There are water spigots and stations scattered throughout the camp, near each sleeping area, so bring your own water bottles or drinkware. 6. Each of the cabin/tent areas has access to a large campfire circle and a pavilion with a charcoal grill if you wish to cook. You will need to provide your own pots and utensils, and clean up after yourselves. 7. Garbage: This is a Girl Scout camp, so its carry in, carry out to the on site dumpsters. All cabins and tents must be garbage clear at the end of the event, so bring your own garbage bags! 8. Heat: if you want a heater for the colder months you will need to provide one yourself, Operations will provide you with suitable suggestions
  17. This is obviously not for IC use, since it's labeling all the things Logistics cares about. As we start talking about housing registrations, this is where things are. Green is player space, orange is staff-and-out-of-game space. The Encounter Tents are in-game areas, but they are staff-controlled. They are not player sleeping areas.
  18. You are welcome to bring and use tents. I defer to Dave on whether or not there are location restrictions.
  19. Hello friends! Please post here or PM Maggie with your pre-production needs for the September event (September 2-4). Any requests after that time will have to be done at sign-in. Thanks! Also, if you have empty potion bottles, please bring them into Logistics - the empties are evaporating into thin air. Thank you!
  20. Players! Like the last few months, we're reserving medical bunks in advance. Do you have a medical reason for needing to sleep in a lodge rather than a cabin? If you have not already, send me a message -- FB, Forums, or email jenicasedai@gmail. I need to know: 1. If you and I have not already communicated about this, I need to know why you need a medical bunk. (This isn't so I can just know stuff about you, it's so I can understand priority for folks if we're crunched on space. ie, is it seasonal, temporary, related to temperature, etc.) I will keep this information confidential. 2. Everyone on the medical list: Will you be attending THIS MONTH? Once I have this information, I will create a list for the lodge for Friday night sign in. If there are extra beds, they will be assigned first-come first-served to interested players. If you do not inform me of your medical-ness and your attendance in September, you will be sleeping in a bunk in a cabin: I will not evict players once they are settled, if you don't inform me of your attendance! Please get this message to all non-internet-y players you know.
  21. Here are the lists for this months ID magic/Estimate Value sheets. **You can only use these if you have the prerequisite skills!** *acknowledging that they're incomplete because we're having a problem with the database. Better than nothing, but use the mobile version if you can. EV IDM
