  5. Logistics Announcement: Shift Balance

Question: I have multiple characters I like to play throughout the year, both of which are in different parties. How will shift balance work when I switch between them? Answer: You will need to choose a primary party that your shift balance is based on. Until your parties submit new shift preferences, your shifts will be consistent with your primary party, regardless of what character you play.
  6. Logistics Announcement: Shift Balance

Question: Can 2 parties request to be on the same the same shifts or 1 of the same shifts? Answer: In the survey I will post in December, there will be an option to request shifts with other specified parties. Making this request however will not guarantee either party will have a shift in common, even if both parties request this.
  7. Logistics Announcement: Shift Balance

Question: What happens if my NPC is Friday and I am late or can't come until Saturday? Or if I have to leave early missing an NPC shift? Answer: It is important that you always NPC an amount of shifts greater than or equal to the number of shifts you PC. If you are late to your NPC shift on Friday or miss it altogether, you are expected to NPC on one of your PC shifts (your choice which). If you have completed both of your PC shifts and leave early, missing an NPC shift, you will be docked one of your PC shifts the next event you attend.Your two NPC shifts take priority. Under no circumstances should anyone be playing more full PC shifts than NPC shifts.
  8. Hello Everyone, Starting the April 2022 event, Logistics will reestablish party shift balance. At the conclusion of the December 2021 event, I will make another post which will explain the process for submitting party preferences and will link the survey post back here for ease once it is posted. In essence, I believe this change will solve multiple issues Staff is having, while also improving player experience at game. Some of these issues include: - Plot will know what parties/players are on a particular shift across multiple events, allowing GMs to cater to the particular play-styles of the parties on shift and target them for more focused plots - Logistics can balance the PC:NPC ratio to be more consistent, giving Plot the workforce to entertain the shift without NPCs becoming overworked from too many PCs or under-stimulated from too few. - Marshals will know who in their work-group is available each month to work over the course of a half or full season. This will also allow players to contribute more to these work groups because they know when they are available to help. ______________________________________ As we continue, There are three concepts relating to collections of player characters that are related but not exactly the same. These are Independents, Adventuring Groups, and Adventuring Parties According to the Wiki: "The people who respond to a plot are an adventuring group. An adventuring group does not need to have a fixed roster of people, it can be anyone who happens to be standing around the inn at a given moment. What matters is that if a group goes off in search of adventure or to answer the quest of an npc they are limited to 6 players. ... a group may bring one additional character that is under level 20, plus a further character under level 20 for each full 100 levels any player among the first 6 players in the group has. " "An adventuring party is a collection of people who play on the same shift and aim to play together at game. Parties will often get preferential treatment when organizing special events (like dungeon crawls) so that the party can play together at the same time. Each party is limited to eight players. Character level has no impact on party size." "An independent is any person who is not a formal member of an adventuring party. Independents may collaborate with other independents or adventuring parties as they wish. They are free agents. While an independent might be in the same adventuring group as a party for an encounter, they are not formally affiliated with the party after the conclusion of that encounter.” ______________________________________ So to recap: -Adventuring groups are important DURING games. Independents and Adventuring Parties are important for planning BETWEEN games. -Groups may consist of both independents and parties, so long as this does not violate the group cap. ______________________________________ Returning to Shift Balance In general, Staff would prefer players to join or create parties, as this is the best way we can entertain multiple players at once. To put this another way, it is more resource intensive to send an encounter to entertain 1 player than it is to entertain 6 players. It is important to understand that while these are our preferences, this change does not mean you must join or create a party. If you are happy as an independent, then you can stay this way indefinitely. With this being said, parties will be prioritized when assigning shifts. Once party shift balance goes into effect and you are assigned your shifts, these are the shifts we expect you to PC for all regular events. While you can choose to forgo any of your PC shifts to NPC, the opposite is not true. In the past, we have reset shift balance twice a year (during the same time Plot reviews RP skills). This allows parties who didn’t like the shifts they were given in the beginning of the year the opportunity to switch to a more preferable combination. Wrapping-Up I know this is a lot to take in, especially for our newer players who have not experienced this before. Should you have any questions regarding this change, please comment below so I can answer them. If you aren’t comfortable asking here, you can message me directly and I will post both your question AND the answer here on your behalf without using your name. As I answer your questions, changes may be made to this post (in which case I will announce that in the comments). Thank you all again for continuing to make a game with playing! I can't wait to see everyone soon! Ryan Staring, Logistics Marshal
  9. Prop Check for Weapons and Alchemy Items

Please Note: Logistics and Rules WILL be checking all weapons for safety and Alchemy Items for compliance during Sign-In over the next few months. Just because the Pandemic set us back a year and a half does not mean we will forgo this! Please be prepared!!! If you were at the July 4th fighter practice/hangout and completed your weapons check, you will not have to do this again in August!
  10. August 2021 Preproduction

Hello Novitas! I'm excited to open pre-production for the August game! Please post here or PM me with your pre-production needs for the August event. But first, some Q&A: ____________________________________________________ Q: Is Logistics still inspecting Alchemy props? A: Yes! We will still be inspecting all Alchemy Lab props Please see this post for more information. Q: I posted/ messaged you my production last year. Do I still have to post now? A: Yes! Please post in this thread, even if it is a carbon copy of what you have already sent me. This makes it less likely for me to forget your production and allows you to change your production order should you need to. Q: What about the missing months? A: COVID-19 put a hold on our game for practically all of 2020; as such, Plot has retcon'd this gap, and we will not be doing preproduction for any of the games we have missed last year. However, we WILL allow for players to produce for the months missed this year, excluding February. This means April, May, and June are the "extra" months you can produce for at the cost of $30 per extra month of production. If you are planning to produce for any of these events, you MUST state this in your preproduction for each event you produce for. Failure to do so will result in you losing the ability to produce for these months. An example production order might look like this: Player Name: Ryan Staring April Production: Character: Orthelian Rhossgolossian uin Tathar 5 scrolls of Command Nature. Owe 20 coin Golden Ring with a tree on it - Casts Dissipate 1/gd. Owe 40 coin. May Production: Character: Orthelian Rhossgolossian uin Tathar 4 vials of acid. Owe 12 coin 8 potions of heal body. Owe 8 coin. Bastion of Purify Spirit. Owe 40 coin. Non-Marshal Silver Dagger. Owe 80 coin. June Production: Character: Odric Velrin 4 scrolls of Revive. Custom incant "May my hand forget it's skill, I cast Revive!" Owe 20 coin. August Production: Character: Odric Velrin 4 scrolls of Revive. Custom incant "May my hand forget it's skill, I cast Revive!" Owe 20 coin. --- Total owed: 240 coin ____________________________________________________ Formatting When submitting Preproduction, please include the following: Your REAL name Your Character name How many points you are using How much this costs Any additional cost reductions applied (alchemy flowers, scroll paper, FF items, etc). Please note, including this information is no longer optional. Failure to include the above may result in your production being omitted. I will inform players if we need additional information in this thread, as well as any direct messages to me. Should you have any issues regarding this format, I would be happy to discus it with you. Please submit to pre-produce the following: Crafting You will be receiving your numbers at event so if you are creating numbered items, post here or PM me. Prop Change If you are changing props using the Tinkering skill, please post the number of the item, what slot it is (when applicable), and what the new prop is. This helps us update the description on the database. If the previous prop was owned by Novitas, you will turn in the prop at sign-in. Personalized Incants You have the opportunity to personalize your scroll incants. To do this, post or PM me during the pre-production window and they will be printed for you. Character Retirement As always, if you are retiring a character you need to contact us ahead of time to arrange the retirement process. Seriously, you need to do this. If you know you are retiring at this event, PM me immediately! Please submit all pre-production requests by Sunday, July 25th at 11:59PM. Thank you everyone; I can't wait to see you all in the coming months. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to PM me here or on Facebook.
  11. June Preproduction

NOTICE: Because we have canceled the April and May events, Preproduction has been extended to May 24th. Alchemists, please remember to bring your lab pieces to sign-in, regardless if you are producing.
  12. Good Afternoon Novitas! P&A, Rules, and Logistics will be checking all weapons for safety and Alchemy Items (Mirror of Sophistry, Hermetic Rod, etc.) for compliance during Sign-In over the next few months. I understand this is inconvenient for those who have to set up their labs and/or who have a menagerie of weapons at their disposal. Please keep in mind it has been several years since we've done a prop check like this, and will likely be several more years before we have to do it again. Please know I speak for both Rules and Logistics when I say we appreciate your cooperation during this time. Should you have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding this, I will gladly answer them below.
  13. June Preproduction

Correct! The first time you use your production points, it is free. So if you have 20 production and the required alchemy lab pieces (Mirror of Sophistry) then you are golden! For scribe scroll, you cannot change the language of the scroll. This is why the use of scrolls requires the skill Read Magic rather than one of the language skills.
  14. Hello Novitas! As promised at Founder's Feast, here are the Logistics changes for 2020: Shift Caps: As discussed in the previous Logistics Announcement, we attempted to try something new to balance PCs and NPCs: Shift Caps. After discussing this change with other Staff, Shift Caps will become the new normal. Additionally, we will be making one change to Shift Caps; moving forward, Groups can become divided if caps are met. This means the best way to ensure your group stays together is to either arrive to sign in eary and together, or preregister. Preproduction: As a reminder, preproduction closes approximately 2 weeks before event. Please check the production section of the forums for these postings, as these are the offical means of submitting Preproduction. ____ I appreciate your patience in dealing with these changes. They are always made in the best interest of all players. Should you ever have any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions for us, please reach out to a Marshal and they will make sure your voice is heard. Thank you, Ryan Staring
  15. June Preproduction

Hello Novitas! I've spoken with several people about what happens to your production given that we are missing two full events. We will be allowing people to produce for each month that will be missed if they pay the additional $30 per event. So if you pay $90 in June ($30 for April, $30 for May, and $30 for June) you will have 3 months worth of Production. These orders are explicitly separate from one another (if you have 10 craft points, you can't combine April and May production to have a 20 pt item). This all MUST be done using the preproduction system on the forums (If you message me your order on FB, it will be disregarded. I WILL however answer questions through any medium). Format Because this is different than the norm, I'd like you all to follow the following formatting: Player Name Character Month you are producing for Things you are making Total owed coin So, a finished pro-production list might look like: - - - Player Name: Ryan Staring Character: Orthelian Rhossgolossiam uin Tathar April Production: 5 scrolls of Command Nature. Custom incant "By the power of the Elemental I cast Command Nature!" Owe 20 coin Golden Ring with a tree on it - Casts Dissipate 1/gd. Owe 40 coin. May Production: 4 vials of acid. Owe 12 coin 8 potions of heal body. Owe 8 coin. Bastion of Purify Spirit. Owe 40 coin. Non-Marshal Silver Dagger. Owe 80 coin. Player Name: Ryan Staring Character: Odric Velrin June Production: 4 scrolls of Revive. Custom incant "May my hand forget it's skill, I cast Revive!" Owe 20 coin. Total owed: 220 coin - - - Please submit to pre-produce the following: Crafting You will be receiving your numbers at event so if you are creating numbered items, post here or PM me. Please submit all pre-production requests by Sunday, May 24th at 11:59PM. ONE MORE THING! if you had already submitted your production and don't specify which month it is for, it will be assumed you are doing it for the most recent month. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to PM me here or on Facebook. Thank you! Ryan Staring
