Fear clarification

Recommended Posts

So, I saw and head this twice in game this week end. Where some one at the door fears some one in a cabin. And the person (myself and someone else) freaks out cowaring and all in side. Only to be told that we had to run outside the cabin. Now - I'm pretty sure the rules say you are sopose to get away from the one that feared you, you are terrified of them. If they are standing at the door - why would you go TOWARD them?

I could see safety reasons why you would say that you should not be inside, but it doesn't seem right that you need to leave the building when the one that feared you is right outside.

I am under the impression that cowering in the corner like an scared idiot would be an appropriate reaction in this situation.

It sounds like you did the right thing.

First priority: get away from the thing that feared you.

If you cant get distance, then cower and hide.

This question came up a few years ago when an NPC played by Steve Marsh got feared inside a "dungeon" -- we were in a cave with one exit, and the exit was where the PCs were standing, trying to hold the choke point so they wouldn't die in the cavern. So Steve got as far away as he could from the PCs, and cowered with his face to the wall and hands over his head, whimpering. It was *perfect*. Fear = unreasoning terror. Do what the terrified would do. :)
