  1. took a few years but I am back!

Good morning and welcome (back)! I’m Michael - the Second Marshal for Marketing and Player Outreach. First and foremost, welcome - officially - to Novitas; glad to hear you still have an interest in playing! Usually I'd point out somewhere that I always recommend new players NPC their first event (or even few events), but that already seems to be your plan so nothing to say there. What I would recommend is making sure that you've got garb warm enough for a winter event (or at least thermals to wear under said garb) - it can get very chilly. I'm not sure how much of this you've done over the last year or so, so to give you the typical rundown I share - there's some important information that I would definitely recommend reading up on. You can find a list of races on the Wiki here that gives information and costuming requirements for all current races - from there you can also make your way to our Setting pages. Some stuff there may be a little bit outdated or have less information than is generally known, but if you have any questions, you can put them in the #setting-questions chat of the Discord. The Wiki overall provides a fairly good introduction to the game in the "Learn to Play" and "New Characters" sections. You can also find information about the setting on the Wiki as well. I would also recommend checking out our YouTube channel to get a visual representation of the vibe we shoot for. If you’ve got any questions or just want to chat about game, my DMs are always open both on Discord (Michael/Mathys, I’ve got a yellow name) or on Facebook (Michael Maneri). If you have any garb questions for the winter, the Discord is always a good place to ask as well! Hope to meet you soon!
  2. Interested in checking things out

Apologies for the late reply, life and our most recent event has run me a big ragged lately! I’m Michael - the Second Marshal for Marketing and Player Outreach. First and foremost, welcome to Novitas! We've got quite a bit of our playerbase located in the Ithaca/Cortland/Syracuse area, so its definitely a common place for our players to head up from! You'll definitely find a lot of DnD nerds and even some rennies around, so you'll be in good company there. It sounds like you've already gone through the wiki a bit, but to give you the typical rundown I share - there's some important information that I would definitely recommend reading up on. 3. New First Time Larper

Apologies for the late reply, it's been a very busy time lately! I’m Michael - the Second Marshal for Marketing and Player Outreach. I'm a big fan of medieval history myself (both majored and minored in it!) and I've had a lifelong interest in fantasy, so let me be the first one to tell you that finding a LARP that really fit what I was looking for was a lifechanger in terms of hobbies! You may have seen this already, but there's some important information that I would definitely recommend reading up on first and foremost, You can find a list of races on the Wiki here that gives information and costuming requirements for all current races - from there you can also make your way to our Setting pages. 4. potential new player

Hello! I'm Michael, I'm the Second Marshal for Marketing and Player Outreach. First, let me just say Welcome to Kingdoms of Novitas! It's a great LARP to join for both those new and experienced in the hobby, so many of us have been the shy newbie in the past and are always super welcoming to anyone who is just joining! Jumping to my recommended first steps in learning about our game - there's some important information that I would definitely recommend reading up on, You can find a list of races on the Wiki here that gives information and costuming requirements for all current races. The Wiki overall provides a fairly good introduction to the game in the "Learn to Play" and "New Characters" sections. You can also find information about the setting on the Wiki as well. I would also recommend checking out our YouTube channel to get a visual representation of the vibe we shoot for. I would also recommend joining our Discord where you can connect with our community! It's likely the most active location for the community (besides game itself of course)! We're looking forward to seeing you in the future and if you have any questions, feel free to ask either myself or our First Marshal for Marking and Player Outreach, Brandon Febles!
  5. Potential new players

Heyo! As Ryan Green states at the top of this page, it’s a big work in progress, but here is the most up-to-date setting info to my knowledge: https://www.kingdomsofnovitas.net/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=Setting.Setting I’m not currently aware of any other good links, but Brandon and I have been talking with Dave Coyle about releasing some more lore videos like this one: I don’t have an ETA on those, but keep a lookout!
  6. New player

Hello! I saw that Morgan has summoned me above, but to introduce myself, I’m Michael - the Second Marshal for Marketing and Player Outreach. As mentioned above, combat is entirely optional at Novitas. We’ve got quite a number of non-combatants these days who have plenty of fun either healing in the back of fights, or just hanging back from fights altogether and chilling in the taverns or by the fire! When you NPC, you can also always say “no” to a combat role. I’m also a GM myself and we are all willing to work with players to accommodate their preferences between combat and RP (some want one or the other, and others do both!) NPCing for a few games is always my recommendation because it gives a good general feel for the game. I usually recommend new players NPC the whole of their first 1-3 events, but it’s not unheard of for some people to NPC for their first year. I would also recommend PCing at least once before deciding if Novitas is for you or not as while you can get a general vibe of the game NPCing, PCing is a different beast. (Your second game is also free!) As for first steps in learning about our game, there's some important information that I would definitely recommend reading up on, You can find a list of races on the Wiki here that gives information and costuming requirements for all current races - from there you can also make your way to our Setting pages. 7. New NPCs

Hello! I'm Michael, I'm the Second Marshal for Marketing and Player Outreach. First, let me just say Welcome to Kingdoms of Novitas! I think you’ll really fit in here by the sound of it. You’ll find a bunch of crafts and theatre people around and *especially* TRPG nerds (myself included)! In my completely unbiased and definitely not influenced by anything at all opinion, I really do think Novitas presents a great experience to people who are new to LARPing. We have a very helpful staff and an enthusiastic player base who are both dedicated to providing players with the best experience possible. You will find a lot of people who will be quick to help answer any questions from new players, the first two among them being myself and the Marshal for M&PO (my boss) Brandon Febles. As for first steps in learning about our game - there's some important information that I would definitely recommend reading up on, You can find a list of races on the Wiki here that gives information and costuming requirements for all current races. The Wiki overall provides a fairly good introduction to the game in the "Learn to Play" and "New Characters" sections. You can also find information about the setting on the Wiki as well. I would also recommend checking out our YouTube channel to get a visual representation of the vibe we shoot for. I would also *highly* recommend joining our Discord where you can connect with our community! It's likely the most active location for the community (besides game itself of course)! I also usually recommend new players NPC their entire first event, if not the first few, before making a PC/OC, but it seems y’all have already made that your plan! We’ve *always* got use for more NPCs, so you can be ready to be engaged in your choice of combat, roleplaying, or both come June! We're looking forward to seeing you in June and again, if you have any questions, feel free to ask either myself or our Marshal for Marking and Player Outreach, Brandon Febles! I am typically best contacted over Discord (though Facebook or these forums also work), and I believe Brandon prefers being reached out over Facebook primarily, but will also see messages on Discord and the forums as well.
  8. New player, really excited to get started

It would be quite difficult to heat a lean-to as one side is entirely open to the elements, except for a large plastic sheet with acts as a curtain. I suppose you cold attempt to close the gap in the middle and heat it with a portable space heater (no outlets), but I have stayed in a lean-to in December and been fine with just some warm clothes and good blankets. We also do not require testing or proof of vaccination before arriving.
  9. hi! new player.

Players can arrive at any point after 4pm! First shift begins at 9.
  10. hi! new player.

I would definitely recommend going through the “Getting Started” section of the website for a checklist of what you need before coming and a list of Do’s and Do Not’s. As a new player, you will have to NPC your first two shifts (Friday Night and Saturday Morning). After that you’re free to PC the other two shifts if you have a character ready! That being said, it is a common recommendation (and one that I would make) that new players should NPC their entire first event to get a good idea of game overall. Then, you can take the whole month between events to work on your PC! This is by no means a requirement, but you will start with more XP if you choose to do this and (in my opinion) get a better feeling for the setting and the rules. We look forward to seeing you!
  11. New player, really excited to get started

In response to your first question, you can indeed be an NPC and PC at the same event here! We have four "shifts" per event and you are required to NPC an equal or greater amount to the shifts you PC (ex. 2 PC/2 NPC, 1 PC/3 NPC, 1 PC, 1 NPC, etc.). As for your second question, you can reserve a spot whenever you would like! We do not have a limit on the number of players that can attend per game, so if you wish to pay at the door, that is also a frequently taken option.
  12. New player, really excited to get started

Sadly, I am not familiar with them. At first glance, it appears they only meet four times a year and have options for PC only and NPC only. Kingdoms of Novitas meets just about every month, barring February and July typically, and all of our players fill the roles of both NPCs and PCs every event. As for any further differences, I would check out our wiki as well as our YouTube channel where you can get a pretty good idea of what game is like! In my opinion, the only way to really know is to come and check it out yourself! Your second event at Kingdoms of Novitas is free, so I always recommend coming a few times to game and then making up your mind if it’s for you!
  13. New player, really excited to get started

Hello! I'm Michael, I'm the Second Marshal for Marketing and Player Outreach. First, let me just say Welcome to Kingdoms of Novitas! As attested to above, our game is very receptive to characters who favor roleplaying over combat, including those who avoid combat all together! KoN welcomes players of all different playstyles, especially those new to LARPing!
